The Medical Council of Canada has recognized the importance of LGBTI issues in the creation of both the CLEO (Considerations of the Legal, Ethical and Organnizational Aspects of the Practice of Medicine) objectives[13] and the objectives[14] that apply to the MCC licensing exams. Several of CLEO  [13] objectives apply to the care of LGBTI patients particularly in dealing with a patient’s right to freedom from discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation. Objective 97 of the MCC Objectives[14] also deals specifically with LGBT sexual health issues.

The Canadian Medical Association’s Code of Ethics also states that physicians should not discriminate against patients based on sexual orientation.
