The Challenge of Healthy Integration into Canadian Society

Poverty for immigrants and refugees is multiplied with dozens of other settlement issues, leaving families with tremendous barriers to overcome.  Many families and individuals are extremely isolated.  Some would have traditionally relied on the extended family for support in parenting.  Family dynamics change and this affects their well-being.  There may be misunderstandings or strain in finding the balance between integration and respect for culture and tradition.  These changes and imbalances can create tension in the family relations.
