Initial Management

While you were getting the stat EKG,  the emerg nurse put in an IV and gave the patient some oxygen and asked you if you would like Ms Jones to have some aspirin or a beta-blocker.

You consult with the resident and prescribe a beta-blocker. However, you know that these drugs have been shown to be less effective for black patients than white patients. You also prescribe a thiazide diuretic, which has been shown to enhance the efficacy of beta-blockers for black patients.
